The Pathways to Future Destinations conference will highlight the needs of persons with disabilities and their families as they plan for the future. Agenda will include a poster/vendor reception on Sunday evening October 18th. To see the conference agenda click here.
Register online to reserve your ticket. Fees are to be paid to the Boling Center prior to conference date. Full conference registration is $99.00; UCEDD/LEND Trainee Registration is $50.00; and Family/Self Advocate is $75.00. There are a limited number of stipends for family members and self advocates. Featured Speakers: William Gaventa, serves as the Director, Community and Congregational Supports at The Elizabeth M. Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities in New Jersey. His specialties include developmental disabilities, spiritual supports, and community supports and coordinates a training and technical assistance team for the New Jersey Self Directed Supports Project. As writer and author, he is the Co-Editor of the Journal of Religion Disability and Health , editor of two newsletters and a columnist for Insight, the national newsletter of the Arc of the United States.
Jeffrey Kauffman is a psychotherapist who began developing therapeutic treatment approaches for the losses that exist in the intellectual disabilities community, and multi-dimensional models for agencies and families to respond to these diverse losses over 20 years ago. He is a noted author and speaker on these issues and provides training for professionals and families. In 2005, he published the Guidebook for Helping People with Mental Retardation Mourn . He has taught on the faculty at Bryn Mawr College, Widener University Center for Social Work Education and King’s University College, University of Western Ontario.
Other speakers will cover the topics of: Aging, Applied research, Legal issues, Family Perspectives, and Ethics.
The conference will also feature exhibitors and vendors, an evening poster session/reception, a special viewing of A Friend Indeed: The Bill Sackter Story as well as all Downtown Memphis has to offer. Continuing Education Accreditation
PSYCHOLOGY (APA) The University of Tennessee Boling Center is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. University of Tennessee Boling Center maintains responsibility for this program and its content. The Boling Center is offering specific sessions for 7.5 continuing education credits. The Boling Center agrees to adhere to the APA Ethical Principles of Psychologists. There is an additional $15 fee for psychologists to register for professional continuing education credits for this event.
NURSING This activity has been submitted to the Tennessee Nurses Association for approval to award contact hours. Tennessee Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. There is a $10 fee for nursing contact hours.
SOCIAL WORK & PHYSICAL THERAPY A certificate for the number of hours of completed training will be given to each participant to file with their continuing education program to receive continuing education credits.
REGISTERED DIETITIANS The University of Tennessee Boling Center is an accredited provider through the Commission on Dietetic Registration. CPEU activities are pre-approved by the Commission on Dietetic Registration for Registered Dietitians and Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR). 7.5 CEs are approved for this seminar
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY The University of Tennessee Boling Center is an AOTA Approved Provider of continuing education. AOTA does not endorse specific course content, products, or clinical procedures. There is 0.75 CEUs available for this seminar. The assignment of AOTA CEUs does imply endorsement of specific course content, products, or clinical procedures by AOTA.
